Box lacrosse, also known as indoor lacrosse, is an indoor version of lacrosse played in Canada and becoming very popular in the US. Box lacrosse is played between two teams of six players, in a hockey rink with a turf surface. Due to the presence of hockey boards, there are fewer balls out of play, fewer stoppages in play, and more rebounds.

Rep (short for Representative) lacrosse teams are the competitive squads that represent the Peterborough Minor Lacrosse Association in games and tournaments against other clubs. These teams compete within the Ontario Lacrosse Association and are ranked each year from “A” through “E” based on skill and performance. Rep lacrosse is the top level of competitive box lacrosse offered within our club.

1. The speed is way faster than anything you would see outdoors.  It makes playing outside seem like going in slow motion.

2. Playing in closer spaces means your stick skills have to be tighter and quicker. Your stick handling improves because there is no room for error, quite literally.

3. Shots come hard and fast. Goalies see more shots in a shorter period of time. Their hands and reaction time become much quicker.

Players do not have to live within the City of Peterborough limits to try out; however, Ontario Lacrosse Association residency rules require athletes to be residentially bound to PMLA in order to play Rep Box with our club. To confirm your eligible centre, use the “Where Do I Play?” tool on the Ontario Lacrosse Association website.

All Rep Box players must have proper lacrosse gear to participate:

• Lacrosse stick

• CSA-approved helmet with full face mask

• Mouthguard

• Shoulder pads

• Arm and elbow protection

• Rib and back padding

• Lacrosse gloves

• Athletic support and cup

Rep team fees are separated into three components: Registration Fee, PMLA REP Fee, and Team Fee.

• Registration Fees cover the tryout fee, PMLA operating costs, and governing body fees. Registration fees are due at the time of registration and must be paid in full before participating in tryouts.

• PMLA REP Fees cover floor time for team practices and games, as well as expenses incurred through REP team activities.

• Team Fees are determined by each individual team, with oversight from the club. Teams establish a budget to cover additional expenses such as non-parent coach fees, coach mileage, accommodations for non-parent coaches at tournaments, team events, referee and timekeeper payments, and any other team-related expenses.
