Trainers Information

As part of the Ontario Lacrosse Association’s approach to risk management and safety education, the Ontario Lacrosse Association’s Board of Directors has approved the definitive list of safety certification programs for volunteer team trainers. The first priority for team trainers at all times is safety, both on and off the playing surface.

To be approved as a trainer by the OLA, the following requirements must be met:

  1. Must have the appropriate training as detailed below.

  2. Must be properly registered with the OLA through Sportzsoft.

  3. Bench personnel over the age of 18 must complete their screening requirements according to the OLA’s Screening Policy.

  4. Complete Making Headways Course and upload your locker to Sportzsoft

Training

Emergency First Aid & CPR; Emergency First Aid; Standard First Aid and/or Standard First Aid & CPR certifications of eight hours or longer meet OLA Trainer certification status. The hockey trainer certification program (HTCP) is a valid training resource.

Note: Many of our trainers have chosen to use Hockey Trainers Ontario because it is valid for both Lacrosse and Hockey.

The OLA also recognizes individuals who have attained professional medical qualifications which are deemed of a higher qualification than those standards listed on the OLA website. Accepted accreditations include MD; RN; paramedic; EMT; police officer & firefighter (proof of current status required).

In addition, every trainer must complete:

Registration through Sportzsoft

Each trainer must register themselves through Sportzsoft. Products available for registration are as follows and are set out by the OLA:

  1. BOX Trainer

  2. BOX Coach & Trainer (U13 & below)

  3. BOX Coach & Trainer (U15 & above)

Please only register as a coach & trainer if you meet the requirements for both positions.

Registration must include your trainer certification as well as an up to date print out of your “locker” page. Instructions for obtaining this are as follows. Sign into your locker from a computer, go to the certification tab which clearly shows your name and NCCP # and then click on the three vertical dots in the top right-hand corner of your screen. Select "print" and the destination of "save to PDF". This can then be uploaded via Sportzsoft. This print must show the following:

  1. Clearly show your name and NCCP number.

  2. Shows that you have taken the Making Headway and your HTCP if applicable.

For Trainers who do not already have an NCCP number, here are the steps to create one:

1. Navigate to www.coach.ca

2. Click on the tab that says “The Locker”

3. Click on the button that says, “Don’t Have An Account?”

4. Check the box that says “I Agree”

5. Check the box that says, “I want to create a Locker account for access to my transcript, eLearning opportunities, sign up for coaching events, and more!”
